As I grew up in my house I never understood my father. He as always working on the house and fixing things that needed to be fixed. Well I walked up to him and asked him if I can speak to him. He agreed so I asked him if he wanted to go to a quiet place and talk. As we began walking to the back yard where we have our wood table and cushioned chair I was the first to sit down. As we seated ourselves I told him I was going to ask him a few questions about him and his life.
ME: Are you ready?
DAD: Yes I am.
ME: How did you grow up as a child? Were you poor or stable on money?
DAD: Well as a child I was a kid who always wanted to find out how to build things. As for money wise I was a very poor child. Your grandmother was a stay at home wife while your grandfather worked all day.
ME: Wow I never knew that. Well what made you so interested in building things?
DAD: Your grandfather was a carpenter and sometimes he would take me along to help and I enjoyed building things ever since.
ME: Have you ever thought about working as a handy man?
DAD: I actually was a handy man I would go around the community fixing things like benches at parks or fixing water fountains. I was always fixing things that were offered to the public.
ME: How are you such a hard worker?
DAD: In Mexico before I crossed the border I was taught that you need to do things yourself to survive and it stuck with me so I always try to do things myself and with enough years of actually fixing everything I can I’m able to fix mostly everything because I learned that they all fall under the similar structure.
ME: Now let’s get to the more modern questions. Did you become the person you envisioned yourself as a child?
DAD: Well not yet but I am getting there I have come a long way to almost reach my goal of becoming the best dad I can be to my children.
ME: So you didn’t envision yourself to become a wealthy person in life?
DAD: I didn’t really have high expectations because I knew what I wanted and I knew how to get it. I only wanted to be a person that helped other people that are like me when I was a child. I never dreamed of becoming something I dot like. People want to be lawyers or presidents but I always wanted to be someone who helped the need and till this day I have not stepped back from becoming that man.
ME: So do you think you would have become that person you envision if you would have stayed in Mexico?
DAD: I don’t because it was till I arrived here that I began to think about helping people. I wanted to become a better person after have been giving the opportunities that I got because I actually finished my education and I know I would not be able to do so if I had stayed in Mexico.
ME: That’s very admiring. Well thank you dad you have helped me out a lot and it’s ironic because that’s what you like to do. Thank you again for your time.
DAD: No problem son just let me know if you need anything else I’m glad I was able to help.
