To continue our theme about art and the way it is reproduced, we are going to discuss John Berger's Ways of Seeing.
Thursday we will watch the Ways of Seeing video in class. Though if you'd like to see it beforehand, you're more than welcome to do so. Please also read "The Aesthetics of Distracting Media" by Mark Poser, and think about his argument in relation to Walter Benjamin's "Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction." For Poser's essay, I would like you to understand his main points and please come to class with a printed copy of the essay or bring your portable devices.

Writing Assignments:
In your groups, you will write a 1,000-word critical analysis by Tuesday, March 25. Work together to compare and contrast "Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction" with Ways of Seeing and "The Aesthetics of Distracting Media."
If your main focus is to compare Benjamin's essay with Ways of Seeing, then use "The Aesthetics of Distracting Media" to provide a counterargument. Likewise, if you compare Benjamin's essay with "The Aesthetics of Distracting Media," then use Ways of Seeing to support your point of view.
As a group, discuss and divide the work among yourselves equally.
Also, I want to take a moment to say that I am so proud of all of you. The way you dived into Walter Benjamin's essay was impressive and a sign that you're committed to producing quality work. Please do keep it up! And if you ever need help, do not hesitate to contact me right away.
See you soon!
